Opening Doors Closure Statement

We are so very sad to hear about the closure of Opening Doors.

Their work has been vital in supporting so many LGBTQ+ people over 50 and they will be sorely missed. Tonic’s mission has always been aligned with Opening Doors, to address the loneliness and isolation of older LGBTQ+ people, and to live our lives out, proudly.

Opening Doors were a key part in the creation of Tonic@Bankhouse, as their training made sure that all care staff provide support to older LGBTQ+ residents with understanding and respect. Our joint Building Safe Choices 2020 research work, enabled older LGBTQ+ Londoners’ voices to be heard in relation to their housing, care and support. With over 620 respondents, the survey was the largest of its kind and is still an invaluable resource today.

We send our love to all staff, volunteers, trustees and members of Opening Doors at this sad time. Thank you for all you have done for older LGBTQ+ people over the years and thank you for being such a good friend to Tonic.
